Came across these tear -sheets I ripped out of Depeche Mode Magazine (circa early 70′s) amongst my stuff . Antonio was the most admired illustrator of his time .He worked for all the international Vogues ,Harper’s Bazaar,Interview,New York Times, Anna Piaggi’s Vanity and Sportsgirl (Australia). The snap ( 1975?) below taken during the Paris collections shows Antonio in his typical upbeat mode. Chap with the interesting jacket is British artist David Hockney

In the early 70′s I shot the collections for Anne Boyd fashion editor at the The Observer (London) newspaper .Legendary photographer Bill Cunningham snapping YSL muse Loulou de Falaise just after the show .Held in the YSL salon the models had to weave through a series of small rooms packed with the international press,buyers and celebrities.Thats Paloma Picasso clapping as the show finished .The chap with the moustache is the much loved Antonio Lopez (major fashion illustrator) . In front of him is Lauren Bacall.

The final garment would be a wedding dress. Always a magnet for the photographers.

To the left of Lauren Bacall is Betty Catroux another YSL muse and just behind her (before the now trademark demi -pompadour and International Hearld Tribune byline) sits Suzy Menkes.To Suzy’s right is Ann Chubb another British newspaper fashion writer.

B C is arranging a picture opportunity .

He has 2 Olympus Pen 1/2 frame bodies and his regular 35mm film camera. Always wearing a black skivvy under a black cotton jacket.

The chance of coming to the of the roll ( 36 frames or 72 for the Pen) at a crucial moment was a source of concern for photographers.In the background B C checks his camera.

Accompanied by her manager Justin de Villeneuve (and me).

The remarkably large crowd of excited young girl fans, pushy press men and little security wherever she went made it a quite an unnerving experience for the first time traveller to step outside!

The tall chap in the middle is Paul Babb, who along with Pamela Proctor (both recent grads.of RCA fashion) designed the Twiggy clothing range.

Sitting to the right is Teddy, East End Londoner friend of Twiggy and her part time bodyguard (also flower seller at Kensington tube station).
